NEWBOROUGH & BOROUGH FEN WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
April 2017 Newsletter
We have had a good start to the year with some excellent speakers.
In February we watched a demonstration of how to make chicken wired sculptures. Then we were all able to take some plastic covered chicken wire and decide what sculpture we would like to make. It was a fun experience that produced something for everyone to take home but also there were the odd ones, like me, who found It easy to “go wrong” whilst others didn’t have any problems at all.
March saw us listening to a talk on recycling. The title sounds boring but the presentation was anything but. It was very interesting and we found out just what happens to the contents of our bins. We heard that garden waste goes to Crowland to make compost. Food waste is turned into a heat source.
In April we will hear about Dogs for Good and I believe that a dog will be present. This organisation provides assistance dogs that support adults and children with a range of disabilities and also children with autism. They train activity and therapy dogs to work with specialist handlers in communities and schools.
Our plan for May is to go out for a meal, hopefully to The Bull, to celebrate the anniversary of the founding of the WI in Newborough and Borough Fen.
We are a group that enjoy meeting together but we are always pleased to have new members and you are sure of a warm welcome if you would like to join us.
You can just turn up at our April meeting if you would like to see what we are like, no obligation to join. If you would like more information please phone Caroline on 07595036243.
